Hawaii Wins Two Major Awards for Hawaii.gov

The State of Hawaii was among the selected winners of two unique competitions for its innovative Web development work on the official website of the Aloha State, Hawaii.gov.

The National Association of Government Web Professionals (NAGW), announced its annual Pinnacle Awards winners with Hawaii.gov taking home the Members’ Choice award in the State/NGO category. This marks the second award to be received by the NAGW. In 2013, Hawaii.gov was the recipient of the Pinnacle award in 2013 in the same category.

Marc Drummond, NAGW board president, made the announcement Thursday evening at the Crowne Plaza St. Paul Riverfront Hotel. “The Pinnacle Awards celebrate excellence. Our NAGW members do tremendous work with limited resources. Our judges are continually impressed at the level of quality displayed by all of our entries. We are proud to honor these sites which demonstrate the high caliber work carried out by government Web professionals throughout the country.”

Concurrently, the Web Marketing Association was announcing the winners of its 18th annual Web Award Competition. With more than 1,500 entries from 40 countries, Hawaii.gov was awarded the top honor of Best Government Website.

Recent upgrades to the award-winning Hawaii.gov website, include:

  • Language translation
  • Geolocation mapping service allows visitors to find government offices, EV stations, farmers markets, and more.
  • 273 social media pages, 1,200+ twitter followers, a Flickr photo pool, and 20 YouTube videos

Hawaii.gov also took a first-of-its kind approach to the gamification of government, to create a new one-stop shop allowing Hawaii residents to completely customize how they interact online with the state on any device, anywhere, anytime – securely and reliably. The result, my.hawaii.gov, integrates with seven of the 17 departments and includes a rich, personalized history of all business conducted online with the state. It also directly integrates with almost 60 of the 100+ online services offered in Hawaii. For highlights of the great new features, visit m.hi.gov/myhi.

The Best Government Website and Members’ Choice awards bring a grand total of 11 awards received in recognition of Hawaii.gov since its initial release in April 2013.
